Michigan rules to know
- Switching Medigap plans
- Michigan doesn't add a yearly Medigap switching right. Outside your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period (which starts when you're 65 or older and have Part B) and certain federal protections, such as losing other coverage, insurers can usually ask health questions and turn you down. States with switching rights.
- Medigap under 65
- Required, with limits. Michigan has no rule written just for people under 65, but insurers that also sell group health insurance must sell a basic Medigap policy (like Plan A) or Plan D or G (C or F if you got Medicare before 2020) to anyone on Medicare who asks, with no age limit, though they can make you wait up to 6 months for coverage of pre-existing conditions.
- Agent licenses
- Agents must be licensed for health insurance in Michigan. Look one up.
